It’s really hard to find truly solid advice as a freelancer in the online communities but one huge thing is never pick up work that requires you to pay anything out of pocket other than putting back for taxes at the end the fiscal year. More than likely it’s a scam and you’ll pay for it in the long run.

If you are looking to have samples for future employers; the best way to go about that is to just write up samples for them to look at. Getting samples via free work is just a headache.

Those sort of venues are great for the beginning freelancer and a good standby for the veteran.
