When you first take on a job, you need to be clear on all of the details of what is expected of you. Ask as many questions as you need to, even if you think it is stupid. There are no stupid questions when it comes to giving the client what they need. If you are unsure about anything, you need to ask. This way there are no problems and your chances of having to go back and revise or redo the work is greatly reduced.
Do not just be a “yes man.” You do not have to say yes to every single thing. If there is a problem, then you need to professional confer with the client instead of agreeing to something you cannot handle. It will cause more stress for you and potentially the client as well.
When you set your rate, you need to keep in mind that every client is different. What may be expensive to you could be nothing for them and vice versa. You should pick a rate that is neutral and flexible depending on the client. You should also keep in mind that it does not have to be an hourly rate only. Most writing jobs pay you by the amount of words or number of posts/articles that you provide them in the time frame that you are given. Most jobs are not on an hourly basis, and that should be mentally noted.
Unfortunately, there are people out there that are trying to scam writers. They exist, and there are some tells that give them away. If the person does not have a verified payment plan, then you should be cautious. If they have awarded the job, but never paid anyone, then that should be a red flag as well. Do not just get wrapped up in that fact that you got an offer, check out the client’s profile and make sure they are legitimate before you dive in with writing for them.
